 This is one of four of my images published in the current Society of Illustrators Annual. The annual’s great wraparound cover this year is by fellow Picture Mechanics member Jeffrey Decoster. The SI annual’s redesign a few years ago by D.J. Stout at Pentagram has made the book an even better experience for art directors. The book is now very handy, user friendly, and contemporary.
The image above was originally published in The New Yorker magazine. It accompanied an article on the erotic film “9 Songs” by the British director Michael Winterbottom. The illustration editor on the assignment was Owen Phillips. I’ve worked with Owen for about 12 years and produced over 100 illustrations for him. You can see many of those other illustrations in the culture section of my portfolio . Owen interviewed me for a feature on altpick.com a couple of years ago. We talk about what it’s like working for The New Yorker, my background, and some of my influences. You can read that interview here. |

Commissioned by Declan Fahy of Esquire UK, this image titled "How To Solve Iraq" was part of a larger feature "How To Solve Everything" - answering tough questions of the world. In total I created 6 illustrations with my art focusing on the solutions. A lot of interesting topics to work with, check it out, it's the April 2007 issue. This image has also been selected for the upcoming Communication Arts Illustration Annual out in July. |
