This image was for a short story titled Emergency Nine for a book on golf related stories published by Golf Digest magazine. The story is about two buddies playing nine holes, one late afternoon. One of the guys plays the best nine holes of his life, he decides to keep playing through in darkness to finish the entire 18 holes. It was the game of a life time, shooting a 69.

This is an illustration for The New Yorker magazine of a film from New Zealand titled Eagle vs. Shark.  For these jobs, I usually go to a movie screening, or get a DVD to watch, but this time all I had to work from was the film's website.  It's full of clips, downloads, and a catchy song that keeps me coming back to the site.  Check it out HERE, it has some pretty cool graphics too.

I recently worked with the very cool Joy Olivia Miller, Art Director of Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, a magazine that covers global security topics especially related to the dangers posed by nuclear weapons, also encompassing environmental issues and emerging technologies. The magazine has been published continuously since 1945. This year, it's the 2007 National Magazine Awards Winner for General Excellence. They are most famously known as being the keepers of the Doomsday Clock.

My assignment was to illustrate 3 stories, all dealing with the Reliable Replacement Warhead program. The image seen above, is a story about coming of age as a nuclear weapons designer, passing knowledge from one generation of weapons designer to the next.
