John Walker Lindh
by Jeffrey Smith
Monday, 02 March 2009

I painted this portrait of John Walker Lindh for Fred Woodward and Thomas Alberty at G.Q. Magazine.  The story, told by his father, was a more empathetic view of John as a member of the Taliban in Afghanistan. The illustration describes a narrative moment when Lindh and his fellow fighters are under siege from the Afghan Northern Alliance.

The image above was done for CFO magazine, originally commissioned for the cover, but never made it. The topic was on the banking credit crisis, the article titled "Clamor and Trickle". And thanks to the Hoover Dam for inspiration.
